160 Miles to Choose From
Did you know that there are more than 160 miles of hiking and biking trails around The Woodlands? In fact, these trails make their way around the community to connect the villages, schools, parks, and shopping centers.
The Woodlands is unique in that it features so many options and courses you can follow while walking, running, biking, or hiking! Whether you are looking for a trail to test out your new mountain bike or an easy path to trail the kids along, there is plenty to choose from.
Where to Start?
So, how do you get started?! The Woodlands Township provides a Web Map App (linked here) that shows every trailhead, trail marker, bridge, barricade, etc. If you zoom in here, you can view the several routes that go along what is called the Spring Creek Nature Trail. It travels Northwest from I-45 and the Hardy Toll road all the way to The Woodlands Bridge and Burroughs Park area.
With over two dozen trails to choose from, we suggest starting at the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. The entrance can be accessed at the Flintridge Drive trailhead, near The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park. Here you are going to find a peaceful nature trail with the option of walking a full 6-mile trail. Be sure to read the rules prior to hopping on the trail if it is your first time!

What Should I Bring?
You want to travel light, but you want to have what you need, so how do you prepare yourself appropriately? Depending on the weather, dress accordingly. You’re going to be active, so you can count on your body temperature giving you a couple extra degrees in the winter! In the summer, in TEXAS, dress as light as possible.
Mosquito spray is a must, especially during the warm and wet months. In fact, if the mosquitoes are bad it could potentially cause you to turn around and try on another day.
A hiking backpack is a great way to carry small items such as energy bars, chapstick, water, a knife, and a first aid kit.
If rain is a possibility, you might consider packing a thin rain jacket/cover, you’ll be thankful you have it if you need it!
Benefits of Exercise + Nature
The Summer heat in Texas has a way of keeping us indoors when we’re really craving the exciting outdoor experiences. Nature trails are a great middle ground because they’re fairly shaded! If you are sensitive to the sun, you don’t have to worry about finding a place in the shade to protect yourself. You’re mostly under the trees!
Exercising in nature, whether it be walking, biking, or running, is beneficial to the body and the mind. It goes without saying that being exposed to fresh oxygen and vitamin D does something for the soul! Even if it is a short walk, grab your spouse or friend and go try it! Daily bike rides are a great way to keep your body moving without putting too much stress or pressure on your joints.
