Why You Should Consider Radiofrequency Ablation for Treating Pain

April 1, 2022

What is Radiofrequency Ablation?

Radiofrequency ablation is an effective, long-term pain relief treatment that does not involve narcotic drugs. The procedure involves using heat to deactivate nerve fibers responsible for pain.

How does it work?

Once our doctor identifies which spinal nerves are causing your pain, they perform this minimally invasive procedure.  Using an x-ray, the doctor guides a small probe into your spinal area next to the nerves that are causing you pain. This probe will emit electrical pulses that heat up and destroy the nerves that are causing you pain. While these nerves will still function normally, this treatment deactivates the part of those nerves that are sending the pain signal to your brain.

How can it help me?

If you suffer from arthritic joint pain, lower back pain, or neck pain, this could be the procedure for you! By silencing the part of the nerve that communicates the pain signal to your brain, this helps decrease pain while still maintaining nerve function. The procedure generally takes less than an hour to do, and you can go home the very same day. It is minimally invasive, does not require the use of narcotic drugs, and provides long-lasting pain relief.
